Heartbleed Bug - Security Update

What is the Heartbleed bug?
On April 7, 2014, security researchers announced a recently-discovered vulnerability called Heartbleed. Heartbleed targets a type of secure protocol known as OpenSSL, which is used by many websites to keep data secure. By exploiting this vulnerability, attackers could access sensitive data, compromising the security of the server and its users.

Please note: This possible security breach is a global problem that every Internet site is dealing with right now. It is not exclusive to Texans Credit Union or our online banking provider.

Is Texans safe?
Yes – Texans CU does not utilize OpenSSL on any of our web servers so our internal data is safe from this vulnerability.

Is online banking safe?
Yes – our online banking provider has completed a thorough investigation and has concluded that this vulnerability does not affect online banking, bill pay or mobile banking.

We encourage all members to uphold Internet security best practices, including:

  • Regularly monitor and change your passwords as needed
  • Use strong passwords
  • Regularly clear your browser’s cache
  • Access online banking from a secure computer
