Extra Protection Against Overdrafts
Opt in once for Courtesy Pay and Texans may cover emergency overdraft transactions up to $750 (including fees). A few things to note about Courtesy Pay:
- Accounts must be open for at least 30 days to qualify
- To cover ATM and everyday (one-time and non-recurring) debit card transactions (i.e. at a merchant store, online, or by telephone), you must complete a one-time opt-in
- A $35 fee is assessed for each covered transaction
A Texans Checking account may become eligible for Courtesy Pay after it has been open and in good standing for a minimum of 30 days. Most accounts are automatically enrolled in Courtesy Pay for checks and automatic bill pays (included recurring debit card payments). Courtesy Pay for ATM or everyday (one-time and non-recurring) debit card transactions must be requested (for example, through the online opt-in form). There is no fee to have Courtesy Pay added to your account. Each time Courtesy Pay is used, a fee of $35 per transaction is assessed.
What Items are Covered by Courtesy Pay:
- Check & ACH transactions
Courtesy Pay for checks, ACH, and automatic payments deducted from your account (includes recurring debit card payment transactions) is available for all Texans Checking accounts. Eligible members are automatically enrolled for this Courtesy Pay coverage when they sign up for an account.
- ATM & everyday debit card transactions
Courtesy Pay for ATM & everyday (one-time and non-recurring) debit card transactions is available for all Texans Checking accounts. You are required to opt in to receive this coverage –you may do so online or by completing a paper form and mailing, faxing or bringing it into a branch. You can also update your preferences using the online or paper form.
Courtesy Pay may cover items that exceed the Available Balance of your account up to $750 (including fees).

Courtesy Pay is designed to be an emergency back-up plan. To better protect your checking account transactions and save fees, enable Overdraft Protection by linking other Texans accounts to your checking account.

Whether or not a transaction is covered by Courtesy Pay is discretionary. Texans Credit Union reserves the right not to pay. There are a variety of factors that are taken into account, including whether:
- Your account is in good standing
- You are making regular deposits
- You have not had excessive overdrafts or overdrawn accounts
- Your account has been open for at least 30 days
Accounts are subject to closure if a negative balance remains after 10 business days.
