Protect Your Checking Account with Courtesy Pay
Why Your Checking Account Needs to be Protected
Have you ever experienced the embarrassment of having a check returned or a recurring debit card transaction declined? If you haven’t, what’s the chance it could? While we enjoy the conveniences of automatic bill payment, direct deposit and electronic transfers, keeping your account balanced can sometimes be challenging. All it takes is one minor mistake –a deposit not coming through in time or a payment clearing quicker than you planned – and you could be faced with a Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) fee, plus merchant fees and possible damage to your credit history. But there’s a way we can help you prevent this – Courtesy Pay.
What is Courtesy Pay?
Courtesy Pay is standard with all Texans checking accounts and helps you avoid the cost and embarrassment of returned checks or declined recurring debit card transactions. Eligible members are automatically enrolled in Courtesy Pay coverage for checks and recurring ACH transactions (such as automatic bill payments) when they open an account. We pay your transaction on the spot, with no forms to sign or buttons to push. Your transactions – and your life – go uninterrupted.
Adding Courtesy Pay for One-Time ACH and Everyday ATM and Debit Card Transactions
There is no cost to add this protection to your account for everyday ATM and debit card transactions, too! You are only charged when you access Courtesy Pay, and then, it's only $35 per transactions1, which is minimal compared to the embarrassment or inconvenience of a declined debit card.
Courtesy Pay is designed to protect you - and can prove vital in the case of urgent or stressful circumstances. If you want your everyday ATM and debit card transactions covered, simply opt in online or tell us at the time of account opening!
And if at any time you want to opt out of Courtesy Pay, you can do that, too.
Tips to Keep Your Checking Account in Line
Courtesy Pay is great peace-of-mind protection for rare occurrences, but you can avoid situations that overdraw your account.
- Balance your account at least weekly using online or mobile banking
- Set up direct deposit so funds are being deposited on a regular basis
- Keep an account "cushion" so you never run too low
- Review monthly statements
- Set up account alerts so you know if your account falls below a certain threshold
