Tips for Traveling
Carry more than one debit and/or credit card when traveling overseas, or consider purchasing travelers cheques in advance.
Monitor your card activity through mobile and/or online banking to verify transactions.
Make sure your contact information is up to date. In case a fraudulent transaction is suspected, our fraud monitoring service may contact you to verify the transaction and if they do not reach you, your card may be blocked for your protection.
Many foreign banks don't allow ATM transactions from savings accounts so you won't have the option to choose which account to pull funds from. Make sure you have adequate funds available in your card's primary checking account.
Locate your nearest ATMs where you will be traveling. You can print your search results for easy reference or use the Texans CU mobile app.
Take everything out of your wallet or purse that you don't need. Make a copy of or write down what you do take with you, then take a copy with you and give a copy to someone you trust that you can contact if needed. This may include your passport, driver's license, and debit and credit card information.
You are charged the US dollar equivalent for your international transaction based on the exchange rate at the time of purchase. This is determined by the merchant's financial institution or ATM network used, not Texans Credit Union.
Use a currency converter to estimate the rate you will receive when using your card internationally.
