The Mastercard Automatic Billing Updater ("ABU") is a service that provides card number and expiration date updates to participating merchants who maintain card-on-file account information to process recurring customer payments, such as recurring payments for utility bills, gym membership dues, insurance premiums, and security alarm services. The Mastercard ABU service reduces declines of recurring payment transactions and helps to ensure, but does not guarantee, on-time bill payment and the prevention of late fees.
